Devils Den Habitat Bank
Our Devils Den habitat bank at Skeynes Farm is named after the medieval moated site, a scheduled monument, that overlooks much of this land. Thought to have been constructed during the 13th Century by Gilbert de Clare, Earl of Gloucester. It’s difficult to say what our site would have looked like in the 13th Century, but it certainly wouldn’t have been the regimented fields of wheat and barley that are present today.
Skeynes Farm is a 70ha arable farm on the western edge of Edenbridge. The Devils Den habitat bank will initially include 21ha of land that will be managed to provide other neutral grassland, broadleaved woodland, species rich native hedgerows and individual trees.
The vision for this land is not only to produce wildlife rich habitats but also to replace a hedgerow that has been lost through agricultural intensification.
